Russian Railways (RZD) announced last February the allocation of $ 32.1 millions for the reconstruction of the Trubnaya line - Verkhniy Baskunchak - Aksaraiskaya. The project will be split into two stages: the first involves the construction of 126.5 km of Trubnaya - Akhtuba, the extension of the neighboring stations' arrival-departure tracks and the construction of the bridge over the Akhtuba River. The second includes the electrification of the Trubnaya - Aksaraiskaya section. This line is part of the North-South international transport corridor and provides transport connections between Siberia, Ural, Caspian Sea ports, Kazakhstan, the Caucasus Republics and Northwest Russia and Central.
