An interesting article from Alessandra Spalletta that clarifies the opportunities connected to Belt and Road railway transports. The new railway line between Chengdu and Pavia that will start operations in September this year is only part of Beijing's expansion plans in Italy; last year in December, the State Council announced a new investment plan of 3.5 trillion yuan ($ 503 billion) by 2020 to build 30,000 kilometers of new high-speed lines that will add to the current 19,000 km. In Italy Verona is interesting for Brenner's connection, but for Chinese Milan and Trieste are more important.
